The LMV Youth programs identify high school sophomores and juniors in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties who have demonstrated leadership potential. The goal is to prepare these young people to someday provide the insight and foresight needed to lead the community. The Youth program provides opportunities to practice constructive leadership, committed involvement and responsible participation in the future of the community.
Students complete a four-month program which includes monthly day-long sessions that focus on issues of concern to the community including health care, social services, education, heritage of the Valley, media, the arts, business opportunities and challenges, government and criminal justice. The program give students the opportunity to share relevant learning experiences and to develop effective working relationships.
Students from public, parochial and independent schools in the Mahoning Valley are eligible to participate. The participants represent a cross section of the community in terms of gender, race and neighborhoods.
Program days are held on Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 100% attendance is required in order to graduate.
The tuition fee of $200 covers all costs, including transportation during the program days, lunch and materials. While tuition accounts for a portion of the program costs, the majority is covered through contributions from area foundations, corporations, organizations and private donations.
Please see your school guidance counselor for an application. Applications for the sophomore class will be available April 5, 2019.
